"And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." - — Anaïs Nin
Hi, I'm Vanessa
Being human means that life can sometimes feel overwhelming, and there may be moments when you find yourself carrying more than you know how to navigate on your own. Maybe you are going through a difficult transition, struggling to manage anxiety or stress, working through past experiences, or simply feeling disconnected from yourself and unsure of what you need. Reaching out for support can be a vulnerable step, and I want you to know that you do not have to have everything figured out before coming to therapy. My hope is to create a space where you feel safe to show up exactly as you are, knowing that you will be met with compassion, curiosity, and without judgment.
When working with clients, I take a warm, collaborative, and client-centred approach. I believe that you are the expert on your own life, and that therapy is a process we navigate together. I value creating a genuine therapeutic relationship where you feel heard, understood, and respected. Together, we can explore the experiences, emotions, and patterns that may be impacting your life, while also recognizing the strengths and resources you already carry. I believe that meaningful change does not require you to become someone else; rather, it is about developing a deeper understanding of yourself and finding ways to move toward a life that feels more authentic and meaningful to you.
My professional background has allowed me to support people navigating a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, stress, life transitions, relationship difficulties, self-esteem, and emotional well-being. I spent several years working in the responsible gambling sector, supporting individuals and family members whose lives had been impacted by problem gambling. Through this work, I gained a deeper understanding of the complexities that can arise when mental health, relationships, and difficult life circumstances intersect. I have also supported newcomers and refugee claimants, culturally diverse communities, and members of LGBTQ2S+ communities. These experiences have shaped the way I practice today and strengthened my belief in meeting each person with compassion, curiosity, and an understanding of the unique experiences and circumstances that have shaped their story.
My approach draws from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness, Narrative Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy-informed skills. I integrate these approaches flexibly, tailoring our work to your individual needs, goals, and what feels most helpful to you. I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. My background in public health and community-based work has also shaped my passion for supporting people in ways that recognize both their individual strengths and the broader contexts that influence
their well-being.
Outside of therapy, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, travelling, and planning my next adventure. I love discovering new places, trying new restaurants, and making the most of the little moments that bring joy to everyday life. I believe there is room for both the difficult parts of our stories and the hope, growth, and possibility that can come next, and I would be honoured to walk alongside you through that journey.
