Exhale Therapy

“ Self-knowledge is no guarantee of happiness, but it is on the side of happiness and can supply the courage to fight for it.” - Simone de Beauvoir

Hi, I'm Shannon!

When navigating life hard chapters, it's easy to feel alone, misunderstood, and lost. Whether we end up siloed in grief or lost in a sea of hurt, it can feel impossible to find a way back to a sense of normalcy. What I hope to do as your potential therapist is to offer a life boat, a candle in the dark, and a soft landing spot for life's most challenging moments.

In case it wasn't obvious, I'm a big fan of metaphors. I like how they can both simplify a thought and expand our understanding of a situation, and I often find a way to sprinkle them in here and there.

Outside of metaphors, my best tools are my natural sense of curiosity and ability to balance levity in heavy moments. Therapy can be hard enough as it is, but I am here to share the load with you. With compassion as my guide, I work to create a space that is welcoming, friendly, and flexible to what your needs are. I am drawn to modalities that are focused on attachment and emotion, and I strive to ensure I am sensitive to all cultures, backgrounds, identities, and experiences. What that means for you is that if I miss the mark, i want to know so I may attune to you and repair.

Those I have worked with are of various ages, cultural backgrounds, and identities, with presenting problems such as anger, trauma, anxiety, and depression. I have a soft spot for helping those with chronic illness and pain, and those who have experienced unexpected DNA results (Not Parent Expected). Donor conceived individuals and adoptees are close to my heart, and with such a niche and often isolating experience, I hope to help those in that boat feel less alone.

As a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and having graduated with a Master of Arts in
Counselling Psychology, I have been drawn to helping roles long before I had the official education to prove it. Having dabbled in music therapy and holistic nutrition prior to my master's degree, these experiences have given me a well-rounded understanding of what it means to work with others in various capacities. While my work no longer involves playing the guitar or suggesting "eat your vegetables," I find myself thinking about all aspect's of one's life and how it may be impacting the present problem.

Outside of the therapy clinic, you'll find me in the trails with my dog, at my yoga mat, crafting, thrifting, cooking, or obsessing over the latest horror movie. My creativity is where I unwind and how I fill my cup.

Thank you for taking the time to read a little bit about me and I hope to support you in your journey.
